This page is a quick list of the best and useful freeware around the net, updated as soon as i find that there are new versions of them. I usually use most of this programs, so if you find them interesting, give them a shot and check them out! Because you
should not pay for knowledge… use free stuff
Web Browsers
~ Firefox 3.5, Portable Version -> One of the best browsers around. Faster, cooler and now a new version even more powerfull. Check here.
~ Google Chrome 3.0.196.2 -> The Google’ Option for browsing the web. Competing with Firefox, you should have this as your second browser. You have it also on linux, with the Chromium Builds. Check here and here.
~ Opera Unite 10.00 Build 1606, Portable version -> Yet another choice, from other of the most relevant browsers around.
~ Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.17 -> The newer option from Mozilla, an all-in browser with IRC, e-mail, newsgroups, etc.
~ Apple Safari v4.0.530.17 -> Yet another browser, the main option from Apple, the well-known Safari, even for Windows (although it works better on Mac).
~ Avant Browser 11.7.33 -> Another free option. Works flawlessly, even though there are better ones.
Security
~ GnuPG 1.4.9 -> The best security measure you need for your communications. Check here.
~ GPGshell 3.73 -> The shell for using under Windows the GnuPG described before. Check here.
~ TrueCrypt 6.2a -> The best Open Source On-the-fly encryption app. Check here.
~ Tor + Browser 1.2.3 -> Your option when looking for ToR anonimity and safe browsing, all in a package with browser included. Check here.
~ BCWipe 1.9-2 -> Securely delete your data in Linux with this great app.
SSH/FTP
~ Putty 0.60b -> SSH and tunneling best option for Windows and Linux.
~ Putty Tray 0.60r3 -> An easy optimization for using directly Putty on your system tray.
~ FileZilla 3.2.6.1 -> One of the only free FTP solutions that work.
Compressing
~ 7-Zip 4.65 -> The best compressing option out there. A must have.
~ KGB Archiver 2b2 -> Probably better than 7zip (in compression) but definetly slower.
CD/DVD Burning
~ ImgBurn 2.4.4.0 -> Burn all your CD/DVD/DL/BR with this tiny app that makes what it’s meant for.
Messaging/Mailing
~ Digsby build 60 -> Quite an interesting option if you don’t want to use MSN, but be aware to remove the “add-ons” that installs by default.
~ Pidgin 2.5.8 -> Other free one, quite fast but not all the stable you would wish of.
~ TweetDeck 0.26 -> All in one for twitter accounts. Easy to handle and work with. Check here.
~ PostBox 1.0b13 -> The best and new mailing system for your multiple emails. Check here.
Virtualism
~ VirtualBox 3.0.2 build 49928 -> The best option around there for virtualising different S.O. on your computer. Check here.
~ Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.3.2 -> The free and best option for mounting your CD/DVD/etc images on your PC. Works on W7!
~ Daemon Tools Lite 4.30.4 -> The other free option for mounting images. However, Virtual CloneDrive is better imho.
Audio/Images/Video
~ VLC 1.0.0 -> Your option for better and faster audio/video playing.
~ Miro 2.5 -> Another Open Source Player, works pretty well!
~ foobar2000 0.9.6.8 -> Quite versatile and fast player.
~ GIMP 2.6.6 -> Looking for a free option instead of Photoshop? Here’s your chance.
~ IrfanView 4.25 -> The faster image renderising and editing app out there.
~ Real Alternative 1.9.0 -> The free option instead of RealPlayer.
~ QuickTime Alternative 2.9.0 -> The free option instead of QuickTime.
~ K-Lite Codec Pack -> Looking for codecs?
~ Blender 2.49a -> The best free 3D content creation suite.
Editors/Readers
~ Openoffice 3.1.0 -> The free option most used instead of the Comercial Office.
~ IMB Lotus Symphony 1.3 -> The other option, still in beta, that grants you the same options as OOo or Office.
~ Notepad++ 5.4.4 -> The best editor multi-language for programming and much more.
~ Foxit Reader 3.0 -> The free option instead of Adobe aka slow loading pdf reader.
~ MiKTeX 2.7 ~ The basic enviroment for your TeX’ing. Check here.
~ LyX 1.6.3-1 -> The most used editor for TeX’ing on Windows.
~ TeXnic Center 1.0 RC1 -> Not quite as used as LyX, but quite interesting and stable.
Other
~ .NET 3.5 -> Yeah, that stuff that you don’t know what is it but you need to install once and again.
~ HWiNFO32 3.00 -> Get’s all your PC information.
~ HashOnClick 2.2.1.0 -> Get’s the hash number you need from the file you click on.
~ HashTab 2.3 -> Another option for getting hashes.
~ CPU-Z 1.51 -> Another option for getting the info of the PC you are working on.
~ GPU-Z 0.3.4 -> Same as CPU-Z, but for GPU and graphics.
~ UNetbootin 3.23 -> Getting bootable devices is no longer a problem.
~ UBCD4WIN 3.5.0 -> Another choice for UNetbootin.
~ Wink 2.0 build 1060 -> The best freeware option for flash tutorials making.
